In the Smart line, #1 is an oddity on four wheels. #3 an intruder. #5 a gargantua. And sedan #6, let’s not even talk about it… The German brand seems to have lost its way since its marriage with the Chinese Geely. But his next model could help him get back on the right path. Here are the first sketches of Concept #2, which simply looks like a real Smart, to the delight of early fans.
The return of the icon: Smart finally forgets the anvils
So this is not a monster, but a micro-city car with two doors. Everything that is most normal about Smart, then. Completed, the high anvils on legs exploding your neck with each acceleration, Concept #2 lays the foundations of a rational vehicle. Rational in format, but clearly not in style. The drawings show particularly forced features making Concept #2 as nasty as a moth.
“Love, Pure, Unexpected” design: a mouthful for the city
The bow is bold, with triangular lights and a gaping grille. The side air intakes visually widen the car. The compact profile highlights large doors occupying the entire wheelbase of the car. No doubt, the spirit of the original Fortwo is there, applied to the “Love, Pure, Unexpected” philosophy promoted by the brand. The latter also gives us additional details invisible on the sketches.
The exterior will notably adopt a two-tone paintwork like on the old models, with matte white and warm gold hues. Buckles and fine leather will allude to the world of fashion. These elements exclusive to Concept #2 will of course not be carried over to the production model. The overall structure of the vehicle will be more traditional and wiser. Only the two-tone set will actually be maintained for production.
Goodbye to the gaggle of screens, room for rational minimalism?
No information has yet been confirmed regarding the interior. It is therefore impossible to imagine anything, except that the car will only benefit from two seats and a small trunk like on the ancestor. If we had to make assumptions, we could still bet on a presentation inspired by the other models in the # range. A large central screen would therefore be included.

The immense slabs of SUV #5, on the other hand, are difficult to imagine in such a compact vehicle with costs that must be controlled. The technical aspects are also unknown at this stage. The battery should be tiny and the autonomy reduced. Smart Concept #2 will be presented at the Beijing Motor Show on April 24. It will lead to a production model probably called #2.
