After being banned from entering the United Kingdom, Kanye West is now in the sights of the French authorities. The Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, wishes to ban the American rapper’s concert scheduled for June in Marseille, due to the anti-Semitic remarks he has made in recent years, the minister’s entourage informed Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday April 13.
Mr. Nuñez is studying “all possibilities” to ban the rapper’s only concert in France, his entourage told AFP, confirming information from the daily Libération. The mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, had said he was opposed, in recent weeks, to the arrival of Kanye West. “I refuse to allow Marseille to be a showcase for those who promote hatred and uninhibited Nazism. Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and of all the people of Marseille,” the mayor of Marseille declared at the beginning of March, on X.
The American rapper has lost many fans and several commercial contracts in recent years after making anti-Semitic and racist comments. He notably stated in 2023 that he “worshiped the Nazis” – he then apologized to the Jewish community – then, in May 2025, he released a song called Heil Hitler.
In 2022, he also aroused indignation by displaying himself with the slogan “White Lives Matter” (“white lives matter”, hijacking the famous slogan “Black Lives Matter”), and he went to a dinner at Donald Trump with the anti-Semitic white supremacist Nick Fuentes.
Because of his comments, the British Interior Ministry decided, at the beginning of April, to refuse entry into the territory of Kanye West, whom the latter had requested to go to the Wireless Festival in London in July, where he was the headliner. Kanye West “should never have been invited to perform” at the festival, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer justified on X. “This government stands resolutely alongside the Jewish community, and we will not stop fighting to combat and defeat the scourge of anti-Semitism,” added the Labor leader.
