Sébastien Lecornu will hold a press conference on Thursday dedicated to the impact of the war in the Middle East, during which he will present a “new package” of aid intended for the sectors most affected by the rise in fuel prices. However, they will not be put in place until June.
New fuel aid will be announced on Thursday May 21 by the government during a press conference by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, Matignon announced on Sunday. The price of gasoline in France was at its highest on Sunday since the start of the war in the Middle East, both on the SP95-E10 and on the SP98. Average prices per liter exceed 2 euros over the last seven days.
“These are the aids valid for the month of June, so we were not within a few days of announcing them,” explains a government advisor. Managing the hantavirus has indeed taken up the Prime Minister’s time and media space, leaving a few additional days of reflection for the government, which has gotten into the habit of updating its “fuel” system once a month.
The executive intends to remain faithful to its line: “help those who work” by prioritizing the sectors most affected by the increase in prices at the pump. New professions should therefore join the system, such as taxis who will receive accelerated reimbursement of the TICPE tax. The Prime Minister spoke at the beginning of May of a “change of scale”, promising not to “abandon anyone”.
But there is no question of a measure that would benefit all French people: “We cannot afford it” insists a minister from Bercy. He recalls that the debt burden will soon become the first budgetary item of the State.
